Genelia, was born in England on 5 August 1987., she did her schooling and college education only in India. She studied at the Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai. After that schooling, she went to do her Bachelor's Degree in St. Andrew's College, Mumbai. Her first film was Shankar's ‘Boys' opposite Siddharth. The movie was a block buster and launched her in the film industry. From there she never looked back.

Genelia left Kollywood for a while to concentrate on the Tollywood industry, starring in other successful films like, Satyam, Masti, Samba and Sye. She followed it up with a pairing with popular actor Venkatesh in Subhash Chandra Bose. She returned to the Tamil industry with the Sachein with Vijay.It was a mediocre movie that beat Mumbai Express and lost to Chandramukhi which were all released on April 14, 2005
